JACKSONVILLE —
REECE — Traffic on U.S. Highway 175 was slowed Thursday morning after a collision sent two to the hospital.
Department of Public Safety trooper Stephen Gresham said the incident occurred around 11:15 a.m., just inside the Reece Community, when Aston McDonald, 18, of Frankston, failed to control her speed and rear-ended a GoBus in the northbound lane of the highway.
He said driver of the bus, Gwendolyn Johnson, 40, of Jacksonville, was attempting to take a left turn onto County Road 3310 when McDonald's white, half-ton Chevy truck struck the bus from behind.
The truck went to the south of the roadway and the bus traveled off the road into a resident's yard to the north.
McDonald was transported to Mother Frances Hospital – Jacksonville with minor injuries, where she was treated and released.
Gresham said the only passenger inside the bus, Kennith Eavis, 65, was taken to East Texas Medical Center – Jacksonville, where his condition was unknown as of press time.
Gresham said the man was sitting at the very back of the bus, and his seat was bent from the collision. The driver of the bus was unharmed.
Gresham said he believes the collision resulted from distracted driving.
“There were zero skid marks, which is a good indicator of a distraction in the vehicle such as a cell phone,” he said.
