JACKSONVILLE —
Since 2005 a ministry spearheaded in the East Texas area by Central Baptist Church in Jacksonville has been feeding families who need a hand up instead of a hand out. “We’ve been feeding families in East Texas for over 4 years by offering them reduced prices on meals and food that will support them for up to a week at a time for only 30 dollars.” said Jackie Spraggins with CBC.
Administrated by the Angel Food Ministry which is a national help organization which helps feed those who need some assistance, the Jacksonville location see’s thousands of boxes a year go out into the community. “The food that the Angel Food Ministry provides is shipped to us from AFM, and we pick it up and box it,” Spraggins said. “The boxes cost $30 for the families but come with about $70 of food for the families to enjoy.
“Boxes include a lot of food, The signature box which is the one most people get has four steaks, 2 pounds of macaroni and beef dinner, 2 pounds of boneless skinless chicken breast, 1 pound ground beef, chicken strips, sausage, fish, 2 pounds of green beans, 1 pound of mixed fajita style vegetables, 1 pound rice, 1 can of pasta sauce, spaghetti, three pounds of potatoes, 1 quart of milk, a carton of eggs and desert.
A box will normally feed a family of four for about a week or a single adult or elderly person for up to a month.” Because of recent hard economic times, the church has voted to subsidize $5 off the cost of the box therefore, the box is $25 total.
The deadline to order for the month of June is on June 16th, the pickup date will be on June 26th. Boxes can be ordered online at www.angelfoodministries.com or ordered at Central Baptist Church, Jacksonville in the church office at 903-586-2215.
