WELLS —
A 12-year-old Wells boy died Thursday after being struck by a car.
Sgt. Patrick Dark with the Texas Department of Public Safety said the accident occurred at the intersection of County Road 2741 and County Road 2734 near Wells between 1 p.m. and 1:15 p.m.
He said 12-year-old David Stone Jr. and a 6-year-old boy were headed west on County Road 2741 on mini bikes, when they failed to stop at a stop sign. He said Nicholas Richard Randall of Wells was headed North on County Road 2734 when his 1996 Honda Accord struck the two boys.
“The kids on the minibikes ran the stop sign in front of him,” Dark said. “He had the right of way.”
Stone died at the scene and the 6-year old boy was flown to the Louisiana State University Hospital in Shreveport. Dark said Randall had no injuries. Randall's car was still drivable, with damage to front right of the vehicle and a shattered windshield.
“(Randall was) arrested for driving on a suspended license, but as far as being involved in the crash, he is not being charged with anything,” Dark said.
Dark said why the boys were out and where they were headed is still under investigation.
“Our main focus is to gather all the information we can while we are still the scene,” he said.
