The Reklaw City Council added three departments to the local government Tuesday. This decision came as part of the council’s regular monthly meeting.

Departments created include the utility department, city affairs and billing and customer relations. City officials stated the city would not have to hire additional employees to meet the work load.

In addition to the departments, Reklaw also approved a community CPR training session. City employee and city council member entry fees will be paid by the city, lesson cost otherwise will be around $45.

Judy Ritter, city secretary, said she believes Red Cross out of Tyler will teach the class.

“The Reklaw Volunteer Fire Department is orchestrating the event,” she added.

No date has been set for the training session, but Ritter said it is likely they will take place at the city volunteer fire department building due to space requirements.

Other action items approved by the council include:

• Approval of leasing a box and getting Alligator Ice to supply for the city of Reklaw.

• Approval of a mobile laser natural gas detector. This device will have a range of approximately 100 feet.

• Action regarding trimming tree limbs hanging over road location in the city limits. The council decided to seek a contractor and contact the owner for permission to trim the limbs.

• Approval of the consent agenda with minutes of previous council meeting and financial statements.

After all action items had been decided on and after matters from council members, the meeting was adjourned.
