Cherokee Civic Theatre is proud to announce their 2009-2010 season of shows featuring something for everyone. And with and abundance of music, dreams, drama and comedy, the new season line-up is sure to be an exciting one.
This fall, step back in time with “Little Mary Sunshine,” when the world was much simpler than today, when good meant good, bad meant bad, virtue was all, and justice always triumphed! The musical, which is currently in rehearsal for its Oct. 1, 2, 3, 4, 9 and 10 performances, is directed by Debra Petri and a great start for Cherokee Civic Theatre’s 2009-20 season. Book, music and lyrics are by Rick Besovan.
This Christmas season, be prepared for “A Christmas Story” by Jean Shepherd. Set in the 1940s, a young boy dreams of owning a Red Rider BB gun and sets out to convince the world that this is the perfect gift, but runs into opposition from his parents, his teacher and even Santa Clause. The production, co-directed by Karen Hendley and Judy Faye Garner and produced by Nancy Washburn, will be shown on Dec. 3, 4, 5 and 6.
For the first play of 2010, Camille Jones will produce and Jessica Breen-Ford will direct “The Diary of Anne Frank” by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, where a family of Dutch Jews hides in an attic from the Nazis in 1942. Just before the war ends, they are discovered and sent to concentration camps — an experience recorded in the famous diary of a young girl. Preformances are set for Feb. 11, 12, 13 and 14.
Follow the mayhem of a play within a play with “Noises off” by Michael Frayn. In the play directed Laura Cunningham and produced by James Crump, see how a second-rate theatrical troupe prepares to perform in a Broadway-bound play behind the scenes. It is expected to be shown on April 29, 30, May 1, 2, 7 and 8.
