Spraggins files for school board

JACKSONVILLE —

Jacksonville native Rock Spraggins joined Blaine Verhelle and Sergio Hernandez in filing for the Jacksonville Independent School District Board of Trustees Thursday. The three are each contending for Incumbent Pat McCown’s place on the board.

“I have two kids involved in the district,” Spraggins said. “I am a graduate of the system and I feel privileged to have had some of the great legends of teachers in the past.”

Spraggins said such teachers made a great impact on him in the past and added he would hope the teachers of today are doing the same great things in children’s lives.

He also said he hopes to be a balance between the district needs and the taxpayers.

“I want to be a conservative voice for taxpayers and have the district meet its needs for infrastructure,” Spraggins said.

Spraggins, a board certified safety professional for Texas Mutual and a cattle ranch owner, said he was born and raised in Jacksonville. He is married to Sheri Spraggins.

Jim Tarrant’s position remains unchallenged on the board, while candidates for Jacksonville City Hall elections are also unopposed. Incumbents Rob Beall and Jeff Smith have filed for re-election for their respective positions.

Election Day for both elections will be May 8 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Jacksonville Public Library.

Early voting for both begins April 26 and ends May 4 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

City elections will feature two 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. voting days on April 28 and 29, school elections will run Monday through Friday.

Filing for each election closes March 8. The last day to register to vote for the May elections is April 8.

City early voting will take place at Jacksonville City Hall, and school early voting will be at the Senior Citizen Center.
