RUSK — The Cherokee County Commissioners’ Court voted Monday to approve re-roofing work on the Jacksonville Tax Office, 301 W. Commerce St.
A bid from Jose’s Roofing was selected for a 30-year option.
Pct. 3 Commissioner Katherine Pinotti said this will cost $4,500.
“We thought this would be the better option,” she said. A 20-year plan at $4,000 was also available.
The plans do not include payment for decking repair, flashing or vent replacement, though Pinotti said these will likely not be much of an issue.
Former Jail Deputy Robin Parsons was approved by the court as the sheriff’s department’s new reserve deputy. Sheriff James Campbell said he wanted to keep Parsons in the department.
Bids will be sought on an above-ground fuel storage tank at the county airport. Airport Coordinator Clint Goff said this tank, which holds about 12,000 gallons of fuel, is no longer needed.
“I want to use the money to modify what we have now,” Goff said.
This fuel tank, which carries filtration systems needed for the airport to run military contracts, will be put out to bid with a minimum bid of what the item is worth.
The county will also purchase timber from David Cooper, who owns property near the airport, for airport runway height clearance. Goff said Cooper’s trees needed to be cut down at regular intervals because they interfered with the runway and said the county could request the trees be cut down entirely with the resulting timber purchased.
A public hearing was set for Feb. 22 concerning a 25 miles-per-hour speed limit on County Road 4217.
In addition, road bores were approved for CR 3114 and 3908. The open meeting was adjourned after approval of the January sheriff’s report and the consent agenda, including approval of the minutes of the January court meetings, approval of the county auditor’s monthly report to the end of December 2009, approval of reports from Pct. 2 Constable Jack White and Pct. 4 Constable James Beene, and the payment of bills.
