JACKSONVILLE —
The years of dormancy for the Jacksonville Education Foundation was a stepping stone after they have successfully put on a three-event fundraiser and collected over $22,000 for future education.
The JEF members took on their first fundraising event with a twist and marketed with Emmy recipient Margo Martindale and former professional football player Pete Lammons.
Nearly 300 attendees attended the meet and greet with Martindale and Lammons on Aug. 13. The day of the convocation, residents had an opportunity to have brunch with Martindale and breakfast with Lammons.
Contributions and funds raised by the JEF go toward student scholarships ans teacher grants at Jacksonville ISD.
In addition to Martindale and Lammons, six others were named “influential Indians” for making a minimum $1,00 contribution to the foundation.
Rob Gowin, owner of Sadler's, made a contribution on behalf of his mother Jan Gowin, former Jacksonville High School biology teacher, and his cousin Kirk Sadler, 2004 alumnus. Sadler, also known as “Mr. Jacksonville” was given a standing ovation during the presentation.
Nelda Lake, a former Jacksonville ISD employee was named an influential on behalf of her son and daughter-in-law Matt and Kelly Montgomery. Lake worked at the district for 44 years.
Neta Hanna, a former cheerleader sponsor for 33 years, was named an influential as a surprise birthday gift from her family and friends. Hanna is currently a JEF board member and was surprised with the honor.
Lindy Finley, also surprise with the award was honored as an influential by the Jacksonville central office and board of trustees. Current assistant superintendent of operations and finance, Finley has worked at the district for 22 years.
Susan Phillips, was honored as an influential by Austin Bank. She attended school in Jacksonville and taught for 28 years in the district, and has a total of 45 years of teaching in public schools.
