Library uses grant for ESL, GED classes

BULLARD — Thanks to a $75,000 grant through the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, the Bullard Community Library continues to provide classes for GED prep and English as a Second Language to interested students.

Each class is held two hours a week and will run through June, said Peggy Lustig, the regional literacy director for the Gateway to Libraries, a regional library initiative of A Circle of Ten, Inc.

Lustig said that books for the program also are provided through grant money from the state entity, while ESL and GED software were procured through Dollar General Literacy Foundation literacy grant funds.

Grants from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services also fund the Bullard library's adult literacy program.

ESL and GED prep classes are free of cost, and interested individuals may register at the circulation desk at the Bullard Community Library.

However, class size is limited due to available classroom space.

In addition to these classes, the Gateway to Libraries project will include a six-week summer family literacy session, Lustig said.

Families may pre-register at the Bullard library, located at 211 West Main St. in Bullard.
