A powerful storm system that hit East Texas on Wednesday evening left about 1,200 Jacksonville-area homes without power, said Oncor region customer operations manager Charles Hill.

“Homes started losing power around 6:30 p.m.,” he said. “Power was restored to every home by midnight.”

Jacksonville Fire Chief Paul White said Jacksonville avoided the brunt of the storm.

“It was just a regular day,” White said. “I only saw a light sprinkle.”

Cherokee County dispatcher Niki Pate said there were no calls made to the sheriff’s department about the storm.
