A Rusk man who had previously been convicted of a felony was arrested last week by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department after he was allegedly found to be in possession of 24 firearms and a substance believed to be crystal meth.
Glen Garner, 36, has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a controlled substance.
Chief Deputy Keith Radcliff said several deputies accompanied Garner’s probation officer during a visit to Garner’s home on Aug. 6. While there, they noticed him to be in possession of a firearm.
“When they found the first weapon, they sought and obtained a search warrant. Upon executing the search warrant they located a total of 24 weapons and a controlled substance,” Radcliff said. “The firearms were a combination of long guns and rifles. The controlled substance has not come back from the lab, but it is suspected to be methamphetamine.”
Radcliff said about a gram of the meth-like substance was found in the residence.
Texas state law states felons may only possess a firearm inside their residence after five years have passed since their probation or parole term ended. The law also makes it unlawful for a convicted felon to possess a firearm outside of their residence at any time.
Garner’s bonds were set at $75,000 for the weapons charge and at $50,000 for the drug charge. No information regarding Garner’s prior criminal record was released by CCSD.
The following arrests were made by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department and the Department of Public Safety for the period of Aug. 5 through Aug. 11.
• Sharron D. Alexander, theft by check and theft by check (Smith County warrant). Bonds were set at $750 and $25,000.
• Juanita Alonzo, failure to appear. Bond was set at $5,000.
• Theresa M. Atkins, theft of service. Bond was set at $750.
• Cody S. Baker, assault/family violence causing bodily injury. Bond was set at $1,500.
• Michael C. Boyd, public intoxication. A fine was set at $200.
• Rachael P. Burist, theft by check. Bond was set at $750.
• Jack E. Cameron, driving while intoxicated. Bond was set at $1,000.
• Clifton L. Carnegie, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (Rusk County warrant). Bond was set at $25,000.
• Christopher R. Earl, tampering with identification number (Taylor County warrant), unlawfully carrying a weapon (Taylor County warrant), failure to display driver’s license and two counts of failure to appear. Bonds were set at $750, $1,000, $325, $455 and $414.
• Krystal A. Evans, assault against a disabled person. No bond was offered.
• Jason D. Farmer, possession of marijuana, failure to appear, no insurance and expired driver’s license. Bonds were set at $5,000, $300, $400 and $175.
• Carlos C. Ford, possession of marijuana. Bond was set at $5,000.
• Glen A. Garner, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a controlled substance. Bonds were set at $75,000 and $50,000.
• Nahum M. Gomez, misdemeanor assault. A fine was set at $350.
• Kevin C. Guinn, driving while intoxicated. Bond was set at $3,500.
• Arthur F. McCain, terroristic threat of family. Bond was set at $2,500.
• Marsha S. McDonald, failure to appear. Bond was set at $5,000.
• Shaunda L. Montgomery, aggravated assault against a public servant and evading arrest with a vehicle. Bonds were set at $20,000 and $15,000.
• Mark W. Mueller, failure to appear. Bond was set at $10,000.
• Tony Ochoa, no driver’s license. A fine was set at $170.
• Antonio Perez, driving while intoxicated. Bond was set at $750.
• Rufino Perez, public intoxication. A fine was set at $305.
• Clarissa L. Roberts, driving while intoxicated with a child under 15. Bond was set at $3,000.
• Sheree L. Rodriguez, probation violation. No bond was offered.
• Katie R. Ross, possession of marijuana. A fine was set at $300.
• Tiffany D. Wallace, theft by check. Bond was set at $750.
• Ernest J. Wolf, menacing a child (Colorado warrant). No bond was offered.
• Michael Youngbloom, assault/family violence causing bodily injury. Bond was set at $1,500.
