TYLER — A Jacksonville woman pled guilty to federal drug charges recently, according to officials from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Tyler.
Tanya Smith, 25, admitted to conspiracy to distribute more than 10 kilograms of the substance known as methampheatamine. She was one of several individuals who were arrested during a sting operation in Tyler, in March 2006, according to a press release.
“According to information presented by prosecutors, an investigation began in October 2004 into the distribution of ‘ice’ methampheatamine in East Texas, Louisiana and Florida,” the press release stated.
On, or around, September 6, 2005, a “... co-conspirator and defendant Tanya Smith, aka [also known as] CC, discussed the distribution of methamphetamine,” according to court documents.
According to indictment papers and court documents, Smith may face up to 20 years in prison and be fined up to $1 million.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the U.S. Marshals Service, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Tyler Police Department, the Smith County Sheriff’s Department and the Henderson Police Department have been investigating the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorneys Mary Ann Cozby and William Baldwin are the prosecutors, according to the press release.
