The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department has released new details about the Monday night Bullard-area shooting death of Charles “Chuckie” Hall. Investigators are now saying more than one gun was involved in the incident, and that shots were traded back and forth between Christopher McLemore — the man charged with Hall’s murder — and an unidentified male.

Hall was struck once in the abdomen and was pronounced dead early Tuesday morning at East Texas Medical Center-Jacksonville. Chief Investigator Chris White said both weapons identified in the gunplay were small-caliber handguns.

“Shots were fired from two weapons and two individuals, and we do not believe the victim was in possession of a firearm at the time of the incident,” White said. “We believe the individual who fired at Mr. McLemore was acting in self defense, and no charges against that person are being investigated at this time.”

McLemore, 31, of Bullard, turned himself in about 10 a.m. Wednesday at the CCSD headquarters in Rusk. He was arraigned of one count of murder, and his bond was set at $250,000.

According to White, a search warrant was executed Wednesday in Smith County on the white 2001 Ford Ranger McLemore was believed to be driving. The vehicle was photographed and measured, but White said “nothing significant to the case” was located in the vehicle.

In other CCSD news, a Fairfield man was arrested in Cherokee County last week after he was found laying on the surface of the road.

“Tuesday, April 14, at approximately 10:15 p.m. Constable Jamie Beene was on patrol at the intersection of State Highways 110 and 204 when he observed an individual laying on the highway next to a parked vehicle,” White said. “The individual was identified as Ryan Wayne Moseley, and when the information Mr. Moseley provided was found to be conflicting in nature, Detective (Martin) Pepin and his K-9 partner Sara were dispatched to the scene.”

Sara “alerted” to the vehicle, providing CCSD with probable cause to conduct a search. One-and-a-half grams of methamphetamine and several pieces of assorted drug paraphernalia were discovered inside Moseley’s vehicle.

“The amount of methamphetamine located was determined to be above the normal usage amount for a single individual, so he was charged with manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance instead of a lesser possession charge,” White said.

Bond was set at $25,000 for the manufacture/delivery charge, a second-degree felony, and at $305 for possession of drug paraphernalia, a class-C misdemeanor.

It is still unclear to investigators why he was found stretched out on the ground, but it is believed that he was under the influence of drugs at the time of his arrest. Moseley’s vehicle was found to be in working order.

The following arrests were made by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department and the Department of Public Safety for the period of April 14 through April 20.

• Richard M. Blackmon, 18, failure to appear. Bond was set at $2,000.

• Todd D. Blackshire, 30, possession of a controlled substance, expired inspection and driving with invalid license. Bonds were set at $10,000, $210 and $640.

• John L. Boswell, 32, five counts of failure to appear (several different agencies), terroristic threat (Grayson County), failure to identify as a fugitive (Wood County), theft (Taylor County), theft from a public servant (Russell County) and two counts of forgery (Russell County). Bonds were set at $5,000, $4,000, $1,500, $12,000, $6,000, $3,000, $6,000 and $50,000, and he is being held.

• James C. Brent, 23, public intoxication. A fine was set at $200.

• Cheney L. Carter, 43, probation violation. No bond was offered.

• Gina W. Castleberry, 39, driving while intoxicated. No bond was offered.

• Lance J. Causey, 24, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bonds were set at $750 and $150.

• Bernicea J. Drewy, 43, tampering with a governmental record. Bond was set at $1,500.

• Christy L. Ebarb, 26, possession of a controlled substance and failure to stop and render aid (Harris County). Bond was set at $1,500, and she is being held.

• Lloyd F. Garcia, 53, three counts of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana. Bonds were set at $50,000, $25,000, $10,000, $10,000 and $2,000.

• Jerome B. Lacy, 30, misdemeanor assault. A fine was set at $200.

• Javier M. Loyola, 17, no driver’s license. A fine was set at $250.

• Francis D. Martin, 56, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, two counts of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of body armor by felon and possession of marijuana. Bonds were set at $25,000, $50,000, $25,000, $20,000, $10,000 and $2,000.

• Deeric W. McClinton, 24, possession of a controlled substance. No bond was offered.

• Ryan W. Moseley, 30, manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bonds were set at $25,000 and $305.

• Ureic G. Padilla, 17, speeding, no driver’s license and no insurance. Fines were set at $170, $170 and $320.

• Kaylena A. Piper, 24, driving while intoxicated. No bond was offered.

• Bertha R. Postma, 52, possession of a controlled substance. Bond was set at $5,000.

• Kristelda Ramirez, 18, criminal mischief. Bond was set at $1,000.

• Rickey D. Ramirez, 43, assault causing bodily injury. Bond was set at $2,500.

• Michael P. See, 24, theft of a firearm. No bond was offered.

• Alfredo Villanueva Jr., 18, criminal mischief. Bond was set at $750.

• Jesus Villegas, 34, no driver’s license, no insurance and improper use of a farm tag. Fines were set at $170, $320 and $150.

• Antron D. Wells, 26, resisting arrest. No bond was offered.

• L.T. Whitaker Jr., 34, public intoxication. A fine was set at $300.

• John D. Whitehead, 47, driving while intoxicated. No bond was offered.

• James W. Williams, 56, contempt of court. No bond was offered.

• Latoya D. Williams, 26, probation violation. No bond was offered.
