CCSD makes cocaine and bootlegging arrests

Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department officers arrested two Jacksonville men this week after a search of their residence turned up a large amount of cocaine and an illegal stash of more than 400 cans of beer.

Jorge Garcia, 47, and Arturo Sanchez, 57, were charged with manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance and selling alcoholic beverages in a dry area.

“Officers found a mixture of crack cocaine and powder cocaine in the residence, in excess of 4 grams. Packaging materials were also present as well, indicating that the cocaine was intended for distribution not personal use,” said Chief Deputy Keith Radcliff. “Also, over 400 12-ounce cans of beer were confiscated from the house and were later destroyed.”

CCSD executed the search warrant Wednesday night in the 200 block of Button Bush Lane, in coordination with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. Officers entered the house about 11 p.m.

According to Radcliff, neither man has previously been dealt with by the department. Garcia’s bonds were set at $30,000 for the drug charge and $2,000 for the bootlegging charge. Bonds for Sanchez was set at $30,000 (drugs) and $2,500 (bootlegging). He was also charged with release of surety, for which bond was set at $1,500.

The following arrests were made by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department and the Department of Public Safety for the period of April 1 through April 7.

• Carmen M. Bailey, theft of property. Bond was set at $750.

• Christopher L. Battles Jr., manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance. Bond was set at $5,000.

• Kevin D. Bennett, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and burglary of a habitation. Bonds were set at $10,000, $750 and $750.

• Gina L. Cannon, driving while intoxicated (second offense). Bond was set at $2,500.

• Gary W. Coffey, driving while intoxicated. Bond was set at $1,500.

• Bobby E. Coker, aggravated sexual assault of a child. Bond was set at $100,000.

• Felicia A. Colbert, possession of a controlled substance. Bond was set at $2,000.

• Melvin J. Crockett Jr., harassment. Bond was set at $500.

• Jeffrey C. Edwards, driving while intoxicated. Bond was set at $750.

• Terrious L. Fry, no driver’s license, no seat belt and failure to appear. Fines were set at $221, $220 and $260.

• Jorge A. Garcia, manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance and selling alcoholic beverages in a dry area. Bonds were set at $30,000 and $2,000.

• Daniel L. Gattis, public intoxication. A fine was set at $205.

• Dennis D. Grimes, assault/family violence, failure to appear (Anderson County warrant), violate promise to appear, two counts of speeding and expired license. Bonds were set at $2,000, $750, $295, $218, $180 and $170.

• Brandon W. Harper, probation violation. No bond was offered.

• Lisa A. House, theft by check. Bond was set at $750.

• Michael McBroom, theft of property. Bond was set at $750.

• Jamie L. Morcom, deadly conduct. Bond was set at $2,000.

• Jason R. Nelson, driving while intoxicated (second offense). Bond was set at $750.

• John D. Newland, driving while intoxicated (second offense). Bond was set at $3,000.

• Brandon W. Robertson, possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. Bonds were set at $7,500 and $7,500.

• Arturo H. Sanchez, manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance, release of surety- possession of a controlled substance and selling alcoholic beverages in a dry area. Bonds were set at $30,000, $1,500 and $2,500.

• Paul E. Smothers II, sexual assault (Caldwell County warrant). Bond was set at $250,000.

• Kimberly K. Stevens, theft by check. Bond was set at $500.

• Anthony R. Upshaw, possession of drug paraphernalia. A fine was set at $250.

• Stefanie D. Villanueva, assault/family violence causing bodily injury. Bond was set at $1,500.

• Fredrick D. Ward, theft by check. Bond was set at $500.

• Albert Ybarra Sr., driving while intoxicated with a child under 15 years of age. Bond was set at $20,000.
