Jacksonville lawyer Roland Brown may not be next door anymore, but Roland’s Next Door will be.
Brown, the proprietor of Roland’s Next Door — a music venue that presents live folk, country and family-oriented musical entertainment every third Saturday — is moving to Wimberley.
“Last year I opened a satellite law office in the Texas Hill Country — specifically at Wimberley,” Brown stated in a release submitted to the Daily Progress. “Things have moved much more rapidly than (wife) Gayle or I anticipated, and as of right now, it looks like we will move our primary residence to Wimberley this coming summer.”
Brown plans to continue practicing law in Jacksonville, and plans to be in Jacksonville at least a week a month.
His local office will move into available space in the front portion of the Next Door building soon.
Brown said he’ll schedule it so he’s in town for the Third Saturday Musical Evenings at Roland’s.
“I’ll need a bit more help from some volunteers, so if you enjoy what we do, please let me or Edye know that you would be willing to assist as a volunteer,” Brown said.
The Browns will miss Jacksonville, but feel like the attraction of their new home will help take their minds off any homesickness.
“Wimberley is a once-sleepy little community of artists, musicians, artisans, interesting shops and interesting people,” Brown said. “It is now growing as is virtually everything in the Austin area.”
Roland’s Next Door will begin its 15th season next fall, and Brown has plans to celebrate the 100th “birthday” of the venue’s building after the first of the year. The building, according to Brown, was built in 1909.
