School district officials said Friday they are nearly finished collecting information for submission to the Cherokee County District Attorney’s Office regarding an alleged rape at Jacksonville High School.
“We’re still waiting on a few more statements to put our package together and (Jacksonville Independent School District police chief) Marvin (Acker) will take that to the district attorney and they’ll determine whether anything criminal happened,” JISD Superintendent Stuart Bird said.
The alleged incident, which is said to have occurred in the JHS auditorium Tuesday morning, involves minors, Bird said.
Bird said the district is taking the matter very seriously.
“As long as someone has alleged that they’ve been raped or somebody has said to us ‘We think a rape has taken place,’ we will always turn it over to the district attorney for his opinion,” he said.
Meanwhile, JISD officials are in the process of taking their own action regarding the allegegations.
“There has been a decision made that there is some disciplinary action warranted even though (the incident) was after school in the afternoon,” Bird said. “It was still on our property, so there has been some disciplinary action taken at this point in time and that’s as much as I can say.”
Although he acknowledged an incident that at least warrants corrective action did occur, Bird would not go into detail about what action was being taken, nor would he devulge the district’s thoughts on the degree of seriousness of the incident. Bird also would not disclose who or how many would be subject to discipline.
