JACKSONVILLE —
A 42-year-old white woman was pronounced dead Monday morning after she was hit by a pickup truck Sunday night.
Witnesses told police officials the woman and a man were walking down the median of U.S. Highway 69 South around 11:22 p.m. arguing. Allegedly, to avoid further arguments, the female crossed the road to the south-bound shoulder of the highway, Sgt. Royce McCullough said he was told.
“Due to the arguing she did not see a vehicle coming which happened to be a 2011 Dodge Ram pickup truck pulling a horse trailer, and she apparently walked right in front of it,” he said.
The driver of the truck attempted to swerve but hit her with the left front of his truck.
The accident occurred close to Trinity Mother Frances — Jacksonville, and the woman was taken to the hospital before she was airlifted to Tyler.
At 6:39 a.m. Smith County Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace James Meredith pronounced the woman dead.
