RUSK —
The 2nd annual Cherokee County Turkey Trot begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in downtown Rusk, and features both 5K and one-mile events.
Turkey Trot, sponsored by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, begins with an 8 a.m. warm-up, followed by a 5K fun run/walk at 8:30 a.m.
A one-mile run/walk begins at 9 a.m.
Medals will be awarded for the top three contestants in five different age categories.
Contestants may pick up their numbers at 7:30 a.m.
A $20 pre-registration fee includes a souvenir T-shirt, but after today, the fee rises to $30 onsite.
Proceeds will benefit a Backpack for Kids meal program sponsored by H.O.P.E. (Helping Others Pursue Enrichment), a non-profit organization founded in 1991 that serves as a clearing house for local churches and agencies.
