TROUP —
A preliminary investigation is currently being conducted at Neckover Trailers after it went up in flames on Tuesday afternoon.
Pat Hendrix, interim city administrator and police chief, said officials are currently evaluating the offices and determining what was lost during the blaze.
“They are going through the ashes and seeing what they lost,” he said. “They have more than one building and we expect them to rebuild and continue to sell trailers.”
Joseph Nix, Troup Fire Department captain, said the fire ignited in the paint room, where employees were cutting condos that contained electrical wiring.
“When they were clipping the wire to remodel, it caused a spark and the the spark caused the paint dust to ignite,” he said.
The four employees in the paint room were safely evacuated along with the employees in the other buildings.
The Troup Volunteer Fire Department was first on scene and received help from the Whitehouse, Arp, Flint-Gresham and Jacksonville fire departments.
Nix said the firefighters were on the scene for 2 ½ hours and it took 45 minutes to completely control the flame.
Of the $1 million estimated damages made to the building, only $250,000 was estimated a complete loss, Nix said.
“There was a partial collapse in the roof,” he said. “The fire got so hot it melted part of the metal roof.”
Two trailers were also lost during the blaze, but firefighters were able to save three.
“It might slow (business) down a bit, more because the paint department got the biggest hit, so it's going to take a little while to get them up and going,” Hendrix said. “But I don't foresee any great problems.”
