JISD discusses policy updates Monday

JACKSONVILLE — The Jacksonville Independent School District Board of Trustees will meet Monday evening to run through a series of Texas Association of School Boards local policy updates. This open meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the school’s administration building.

Included in the policy update are fixes and additional language concerning the school’s employment term contracts and student welfare, including freedom from discrimination, harassment and retaliation.

More action items have been scheduled for the meeting, including:

• adopt the proposed 2010-2011 JISD dress code;

• consider vendor proposals, including requests for the purchase of the Jacksonville Middle School gym partition and for the resurfacing of the transportation department parking lot;

• adopt reading language arts textbooks as recommended by the JISD textbook committee;

• adopt a resolution to support the city of Jacksonville’s application to participate in the Columbia Public Broadband Initiative grant;

• discuss a resolution to nominate Daily Progress Reporter Nathan Straus and the Jacksonville Daily Progress to the Texas Association of School Board’s 2010 Media Honor Roll;

• adopt local policy for academic achievement, class ranking; and

• approve the consent agenda, including the minutes from the Feb. 15 regular meeting, investment report, business reports, attendance summary report, donations of $1,000 or over and any potential tax refund applications of over $500.

In addition, an award will be given to a teacher as part of the school’s 21st Century Teaching Award.

Reports will also be given on the Region VII board election and the middle school band University Interscholastic League results.

Superintendent Dr. Joe Wardell will give a report and there will be an executive session concerning matters pertaining to employment, legal matters, contracts and more.

A public comments phase will also be held during the meeting.
