18-wheeler stalls on US 79; no reported injuries, damage

JACKSONVILLE — It wasn't as much an accident as an unfortunate mishap early Wednesday, when an 18-wheel tractor trailer stalled near the intersection of U.S. 79 and FM 747, briefly stranding the driver.

No one was injured and there was no major damage when the westbound vehicle seized up near the U.S. 79/FM 747 sign shortly before 8 a.m., reports show.

"The driver was lost because he should have made a turn on Bolton back in Jacksonville," said Trooper Steven Crosby out of the Texas Department of Public Safety's Jacksonville office.

"When he tried to veer around to go back into town, the landing gear on his grill hung up and that's how he got stuck," the trooper said.

Crosby said some smaller wreckers tried unsuccessfully to move the truck at first.

"All the smaller trucks were doing was sliding around, so they called in a bigger one from Tyler and that is what got him out," Crosby said.

Aside from some very minor stalling of traffic, there were no negative repercussions resulting from the incident, which was resolved by 9 a.m., reports show.
