RUSK —
What started out as a sharp exchange between county commissioners during Monday’s commissioners court meeting turned into a heated argument after the meeting adjourned.
When one of her proposals was rejected, Commissioner Katherine Pinotti said after the meeting County Judge Chris Davis and commissioners Byron Underwood and Kelly Traylor formed a voting block that “controlled the court” and she was tired of it.
“It’s just infuriating me,” Pinotti said.
The comment was after a heated exchange between Pinotti and Underwood following the meeting.
During the meeting, Traylor and Underwood questioned whether the county should approve a proposal by Pinnoti to accept a dirt road into the county’s system.
“You take care of the roads in your precinct (1),” Pinotti told Underwood and said she would take care of Precinct 3 roads.
Last month, commissioners approved moving forward with a plan to annex Tarrant Road. The next step was to determine the cost of any improvements and assess the cost to each homeowner in a subdivision along the road.
Pinotti proposed a price tag of $1,384 to improve the dirt road and said maintenance costs could be rolled into her current road budget.
But Traylor and then Underwood said the road should be an oil-top surface, which Underwood estimated would cost about $25,000. The cost, he said, could be passed onto residents over a five-year or longer term.
Pinotti disagreed, saying covering the road would be too much of an initial expense and she had not discussed it with the residents.
Davis joined Underwood and Traylor in voting down Pinotti’s proposal.
“Why doesn’t that surprise me?” Pinotti said.
