Abbott and Heron wed

Amanda Caroline Lee Abbott and James Benjamin Heron were married on Oct. 10, 2009, in a Renaissance-styled outdoor ceremony by a lovely oak tree next to Lake Jacksonville at Castle on the Lake in Jacksonville.

A buffet reception was held inside the beautiful castle, and a honey mead toast was offered to the bride and groom.

The bride was escorted by her father, Buddy Abbott.

She wore a custom created gown following traditional early Renaissance fashion. Her one-piece gown was made of white duchess satin with a wide square neckline and fitted bodice.

The neckline and waist were trimmed with white ribbon detailed with a traditional silver Saxon knot pattern.

The full A-line skirt was complete with a center contrasting panel of elegant white brocade woven with an all-over cross motif.

The sleeves were long and fitted, complimented with full “tippets” or open over-sleeves. The inside of the tippets revealed the same white brocade as presented in the skirt.

A custom designed pearl necklace and tear-drop earrings enhanced the gown.

A modest silver tiara encrusted with matching pearls and rhinestones completed her ensemble.

The bride carried a bouquet of vivid red roses to compliment the beautiful red and white roses accented with ferns that decorated the ceremony. Flower designers for the wedding were Jana Hodges and Emily Cauble, cousins of the bride.

A traditional wedding cake, designed by DeAnn McCune, with alternate layers of white and spice and decorated with a Westminster Abbey window design was served at the reception. The groom’s cake was red velvet with chocolate mousse and raspberry topping.

Maid of honor was Lauren Abbott, the bride’s sister, matron of honor was Jessica Kays and bridesmaids were Ashley Broughton and Danielle Savoy.

Jacob Heron, David Green, Brian Raif and Tim James served as best men.

Ushers were Elliot Locke and Chris Bannon.

The bride is the daughter of Kathy and Buddy Abbott of Jacksonville. She is currently employed by Victoria’s Secret, and is a 2003 graduate of Jacksonville High School and a 2008 graduate of Sam Houston State University. Her maternal grandparents are the late Lydia and Arthur Piel of Bynum, and paternal grandparents are step-grandmother Rubie Abbott and the late Jack Abbott of Jacksonville.

The groom is the son of Nancy and Jimmy Heron of Jacksonville. He is currently employed by Direct TV and is a 2002 graduate of Jacksonville High School and a 2005 graduate of Jacksonville College. His maternal grandparents are Nancy Joyce Kimbrough and the late Thadeus Kimbrough, and paternal grandparents are Mildred Heron and the late Jimmye Ray Heron.

The couple has made their home in Flint.
