Healthy tips can help eating stay on track

A little birdie told me this week there has been quite an impressive turnout for the Cherokee County’s Biggest Loser contest this year.

I’m signed up and anxious to see how it goes. And as I’ve said here before, I intend to offer tips, hints and recipes from myself and others throughout the course of the contest.

“But I’m not part of the contest!” you say.

Quite alright! These will help anyone trying to shed a few holiday pounds or just get in better shape overall.

And don’t forget I have also started a blog about my experience with the contest. It will include even more information, as well as my own personal experiences and thoughts. I can’t guarantee it will be updated every day, but you’ll be able to read a couple or more new entries per week.

I’d like to encourage anyone who has information they think would help others to send it in or leave it as a comment on the blog.

Below are a few suggestions to help keep yourself from feeling like you’re being deprived:



Instead of

potato chips

12-ounce regular soda

6 oz. fruit-on-the-bottom yogurt

a bagel

butter and margarine on pans

white bread

traditional pizza

whole milk

supersized meat portions

layer cake



Try

baked potato chips

12-ounce water

light yogurt with no-calorie sweetener

2 pieces whole-grain toast

non-stick cooking spray

light, whole-wheat bread

halve the cheese and add veggies

nonfat or 1% milk

3-ounce portions (deck of cards size)

angel food cake
