Shame, shame, shame

Jacksonville Daily Progress

JACKSONVILLE — When I was a kid, I watched Gomer Pyle.  One of the things I always remember is him saying, “Shame. Shame. Shame.”

Those words came to mind recently when Jacksonville started selling beer and wine.

I feel those should be spoken to the Christians of this town.

To the the Christians who voted for the sell, to the Christians who could have voted against it but didn’t vote at all, to the Christians who live outside the city limits (myself included) and didn’t voice our opposition to the city officials, citizens and vendors.

Shame. Shame.  Shame.

I want to apologize to my own kids.

I’m sorry you can’t stop at any of our stomping grounds to get a coke or a book or video game without having to walk past the beer and wine.

To other kids in the town, I’m sorry that the potential increased tax revenues got put ahead of you.

To the recovering alcoholics, I’m sorry you can no longer shop in this town without that temptation being constantly put before you.

To my Savior, I’m sorry Your children failed you once again.

Shame.  Shame.  Shame.
