In keeping with my ongoing commitment to communicate with you about things at the paper, let me update you on our circulation situation.
We have a combined route in New Summerfield and Reklaw that has been open for six months because we can’t find anyone to take it. We are working on a couple of different solutions and hope to have one of them in place by the end of the month, but in the meantime, please know that one of our employees is temporarily delivering this route. Please be patient as he is not as familiar with it as the previous person was, and is still learning all of the address locations.
We also had a carrier out sick this past weekend, and they did not provide a backup as they are supposed to, which means our employee had to deliver that route as well. He was not familiar with this route, so it took longer than it would normally.
Needless to say, we had a slew of phone calls on the machine Sunday morning from people who did not get their paper at the regular time. Most of those were delivered on Sunday, just later than usual. The rest were delivered Monday morning. I do not do Facebook, but I was told there was quite the discussion about it on there and that someone posted that the papers weren’t delivered because “the boss quit.” Next thing you know I was getting questions from people wanting to know if I was still at the paper.
Yes, I am still at the paper. The position that’s open is our District Circulation Manager and it is posted. We are interviewing for the full-time position now. If you or someone you know is interested in the position, tell them to call or email me.
We also have a route coming open the end of this month as another carrier has turned in notice. So if you know of someone who would like to make a little extra money, tell them to call or email me as well.
Monday I called dozens of people back who called in Sunday morning about not getting their paper on time and personally apologized to them and explained the situation. I hope all of our valued subscribers will be patient with us. We value all of our newspaper partners, whether they are subscribers, readers, employees, independent contractor carriers or advertisers. We want everyone to know we fully expect to get these positions filled and get everything in circulation going smoothly again soon, and we’re doing our best in the interim to ensure things run as smoothly as possible.
