Skylar uses a mortar and pestil to crush fresh chocolate mint and dried speedwell to create a hot cup of tea. By bruising the leaves, the plant's volatile oils – which have medicinal properties – are released and can be used in herbal healing. Besides teas, other means of “capturing” medicinal qualities of a plant are through tinctures and decoctions.
