Meanwhile, in Jacksonville, a gravel pile on the side of U.S. Hwy 79 at its intersection with County Road 3201 was home Thursday to an apparent memorial for those slain during the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in Newtown, Connecticut three weeks ago. The students’ first day of school since that shooting was Thursday. The Daily Progress was unable to determine who erected the poignant memorial, which drew attention on Facebook, by press time Thursday.
